Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) incorporates a myriad of modalities to restore and balance the body’s Qi (pronounced chee) – life force energy.  TCM presupposes that dis-ease, as it manifests in the mind and body, is a result of blockage or imbalance in the flow of Qi.

Life, environment, seasons, weather, time of day, diet and emotional state all impact health and wellness. A TCM practitioner will customize a plan based on questions, personal medical history and physical assessment while considering all other dis-ease contributing factors both internal and external. At The Qi Way an you may be asked about sleep habits, diet and exercise, appetite and digestion, thirst, pain and what makes the pain better. A physical assessment may include observation of complexion, tongue (shape, size, colour & texture), and a monitoring of the pulse.

TCM plays a role in the treatment of many conditions:

  • Skin disease (eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, urticarial)
  • Gastro-intestinal disorders (IBS, chronic constipation, ulcerative colitis)
  • Gynaecological (PMS, dysmenorrhoea, endometriosis and infertility)
  • Hepatitis and supportive treatments for HIV
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome & fibromyalgia
  • Respiratory conditions (asthma, bronchitis, chronic cough, allergies, perennial rhinitis and sinusitis)
  • Rheumatological conditions (osteoarthritis and rheumatoid)
  • Urinary conditions
  • Psychological problems (depression and anxiety)

All of these modalities assist in restoring balance and harmony to the mind and body, and leading you back on the path to a healthy life.
